Mount Toubkal — Summit the Highest Peak in North Africa

From the buzzing souks of Marrakech to the rugged trails of the Atlas Mountains, this trek blends culture, challenge and epic scenery into one unforgettable journey.

You’ll immerse yourself in Amazigh (Berber) mountain life as you hike through dramatic valleys and rocky high trails — all leading to Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest point in North Africa.

What You’ll Experience

  • The colour and energy of Marrakech’s maze-like souks
  • A steady ascent from Imlil through villages, orchards and mountain paths
  • A visit to the spiritual site of Sidi Chamarouch
  • Incredible views across the High Atlas as you approach Base Camp
  • Amazing support from experienced local guides and pack mules
  • A sunrise summit push (weather permitting) with sweeping views over Morocco and beyond

The final climb is steep and rocky — but with determination and a good level of fitness, the summit is absolutely within reach.

EXPEDITION ITINERARY: DAY 1 - 4

Day 1 – Arrival in Marrakech → Transfer to Imlil Village

1.5 hour drive • Short acclimatisation hike

Arrive in Marrakech and meet your expedition leader for a private transfer into the High Atlas Mountains. We travel to Imlil, a peaceful village nestled deep in the Toubkal Valley — the ideal base for the adventure ahead.

Once checked into our mountain lodge, we head out on a relaxed 2–2.5 hour acclimatisation hike to stretch the legs and begin adjusting to the altitude.

Dinner and overnight in Imlil.

Day 2 – Imlil (1,800m) → Toubkal Refuge (3,207m)

5–6 hours trekking • Significant altitude gain

After a hearty breakfast, we begin our ascent through the Ait Mizane Valley, passing the village of Armoud — famously full of mules, goats and local Berber life.

We continue along a rocky mule track to the spiritual site of Sidi Chamarouch, stopping for a fresh, traditional lunch. From here, the trail climbs steadily as we zigzag towards Toubkal Refuge (Base Camp).

Evening meal and overnight at the refuge.

Day 3 – Base Camp (3,207m) → Summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m) → Imlil (1,800m)

Summit: 3–4 hours up • Full descent back to Imlil

Summit day! We set off before dawn, climbing steep, rocky trails toward the highest peak in North Africa. With regular breaks for water and snacks, we aim to reach the summit for sunrise — a breathtaking reward for your hard work.

After celebrating and capturing the views, we descend back to Base Camp for food and a short rest, before continuing down the valley to Imlil.

This evening we celebrate with a traditional Moroccan Tagine — and your Toubkal achievement medal! 🎉
Overnight in Imlil.

Day 4 – Imlil → Marrakech → Departure

Breakfast at the lodge before saying farewell to the amazing local team. We then transfer back to Marrakech.

Drop-off options:
