SIERRA NEVADA CHALLENGE - LOS TRES PICOS
If you’ve conquered the National 3 Peaks in the UK, this is your next-level challenge — higher altitudes, dramatic landscapes, and a completely new mountain culture.
This expedition takes you deep into the Sierra Nevada, home to mainland Spain’s highest mountains and some of the most peaceful, breath taking ridgelines in Europe.
Across three big summit days, you’ll take on:
- Mulhacén — the highest peak in mainland Spain
- Alcazaba — remote and rugged
- Veleta — a striking finish with huge views
You’ll traverse sweeping valleys, cross high ridges and explore the very heart of Sierra Nevada National Park — home to 15 peaks over 3,000m and the second-highest range in Europe outside the Alps.
What You’ll Experience
- Three major summits in the Sierra Nevada
- Endless sunshine & wide-open trail scenery
- Quiet, remote summits with unbeatable views
- Rugged terrain shaped by centuries of history
- Immersive Andalusian mountain culture
- 30 miles of varied and rewarding trekking
A brilliant progression for those ready to step beyond the UK 3 Peaks — bigger days, bigger altitude, bigger adventure.

EXPEDITION ITINERARY: DAY 1 - 5
Day 1 – Malaga → Lanjaron
Arrival Day
Meet your guide at Malaga Airport before a private transfer to Lanjaron, a charming spa town on the edge of the Sierra Nevada. Settle into the hotel, explore the village, and enjoy dinner with a full briefing ahead of tomorrow’s first summit.
Day 2 – Veleta (3,395m)
Hoya de la Mora (2,500m) → Veleta → Rio Seco Valley → Refugio Poqueira
Approx. 8 hours • 9.95 miles • Altitude gain: +900m
A hearty breakfast sets us up for the day before we transfer to
Hoya de la Mora.
We begin a steady climb along the rocky
north ridge to the summit of
Veleta, the third-highest peak in mainland Spain.
After soaking up the views, we descend via the Rio Seco Valley and continue to Refugio Poqueira for dinner and our overnight stay.
Day 3 – Mulhacén (3,482m)
Refugio Poqueira → Rio Mulhacén Valley → Mulhacén → Refugio Poqueira
Approx. 6–7 hours • 7 miles • Altitude gain: +1,000m
A big day and a big peak. We traverse through the Rio Mulhacén Valley and up to Laguna de la Caldera, before taking on the steep west flank of Mulhacén — the highest mountain in mainland Spain.
After summit celebrations and panoramic views across 50km of rugged peaks, we descend back to Refugio Poqueira for another atmospheric mountain evening.
Day 4 – Alcazaba (3,364m)
Refugio Poqueira → Siete Lagunas → Alcazaba → Lanjaron
Approx. 9–10 hours • 13 miles • Altitude gain: +1,100m
Two down — one to go!
We traverse the eastern slopes toward
Siete Lagunas, a stunning alpine bowl of seven mountain lakes.
From here, we climb
Alcazaba — known locally as La Dama (“The Lady”) — a dramatic final summit.
That’s
all three peaks completed!
We descend to meet our transport and head back to
Lanjaron for hot showers, a celebratory meal, and a well-earned night’s sleep. 🎉
Day 5 – Return to the UK
After breakfast, we transfer back to Malaga Airport for return flights home — three major summits and a huge achievement under your belt.
